    Pros: Mindblowing graphics, awesome compatibility, internet connectivity
    Cons: blu-ray, slow load times, limited codecs
    So, I'm not much of a gamer; I bought this because it seemed illogical to purchase a blu-ray player for $550 when I could get so much more for the extra hundred bucks. BAD IDEA (but only on the blu-ray front!)
    For a gaming machine, the PS3 is superior to anything else for graphics and streaming play. Whilst the game selection is still a little limited versus the other consoles, its also a younger device and the games you can get are brilliant. The first time you stick in something like Assassains Creed or Heavenly Sword, you'll be blown away (especially if you're on full-hd). What you will notice is some slow load times but they aren't any worse than logging onto your favourite MMORPG on the PC.
    What I will say for anyone who is using the device and its online capabilities... DO NOT USE without having unlimited download or at least a considerable limit. Everytime you stick in a new game it searches for any updates. One game I put in downloaded at least a couple of gigs worth of updates. But the internet access is great. Its very similar to internet explorer and if you plug in a usb keyboard you'll be flying.
    As for compatibility, I've dumped AVI, MP4, WMV, MP3 onto the HD, all with assorted codecs and have been reasonably impressed with the amount that will play. There are still some of the out there codecs that wont work but your DivX and X-Vid mostly seem to work.
    The webcam and chat are also nice features however I must impress the need for a decent internet speed. Those of you on ADSL 1 (1.5mbps or less) are not going to do too well.
    My most impressed part of this was that the siaxis controller has some (albeit limited) similar functionality to the Wii. I downloaded bowling the other night and it was excellent. It feels strange holding the controller in the way you need to but you get the same level of fun out of it (and if you ask me, better gameplay) than you would with the Wii.
    Finally, coming to the blu-ray, this is very annoying... I cannot get the PS3 to playback at the highest video settings. It cant keep up. You will experience lag or lose some of the smooth motion. It requires a tuning down of the features to get it to play. Considering a blu-ray movie can cost more than 4x a normal DVD and all you end up with is a similar playback, I would not advise the purchase for this purpose.
    All in all, the PS3 is an awesome gaming console with more features than you could ever need, just dont buy one purely for Blu-Ray, save that hundred bucks and buy a standalone device.
