From Essential Home Cinema Guide ...
This is a weather warning. Over the next few paragraphs we can expect to see a wide area of high frequency pressure moving in from all four corners of the living room, coupled with thunderous bass and a downpour of surround sound effects. During quierter scenes, this output will ease off to leave clear spells of dialogue and smooth audio detail. Don't venture out unless absolutely necessary - stay in and watch a film instead.
This is the new Gale speaker system experience. And despite being discrete in stature and very modest in price, it is a breath of fresh air ... these are old-school speakers, traditional in design and avoiding gimmicks that look good on paper but do little to enhance performance. They are all purpose work horses, providing a good quality of sound for movies and multi-channel audio alike.
For such a compact set of speakers, the HT 30.1 surprises in its ability to deliver a robust, meaty performance. The dialogue channel is particularly impressive. Offering a satisfyingly crisp and accurate voice reproduction that is open and expansive enough to make us forget it is coming from such a small driver. It is also a bass-filled output- subwoofer, not withstanding, giving a rich, deep quality to the foreground noise that enhances its natural flavour. For an explanation, a quick glance at the specs reveals a respectably low frequency output from the centre channel and satellites.
The front and surround speakers also punch above their weight, by outputting a far larger amount of fine detail than we had expected. Every subtle or minor sound, such as footsteps on gravel or the whistle of calm breezes, is delivered with realistic clarity and a genuine sense of texture and distance. It’s a quality that is shown in its best light during quiet, moody and atmospheric scenes, where the speakers provide enough clarity and power to create a subtle soundfield, which fill a spacious room easily.
The sub is powered by its own 65W amp. It’s not a high power rating but it still manages to produce a serious rumble. The bass output is ever-present, sometimes making itself more noticeable than we would like but adding real kick to loud, explosive scenes. It needs to be kept under control, but by keeping its level low and adjusting its crossover to around 100Hz, the sub can be easily tamed.
The HT 30.1 isn’t without its weaknesses. The surround experience offered during action sequences is less than dynamic, with background detail struggling to attain the same level of open, expansive clarity that we enjoy from the foreground dialogue. Speech tends to overwhelm other elements of the soundtrack, preventing the speakers from creating a audio image that truly fills the room. This is a pity because, as we have already observed, the amount of detail being produced by the surrounds is very substantial.
Nevertheless, for a budget and extremely compact set of speakers, the Gale HT 30.1 offers a more than convincing surround experience for newcomers to home cinema. A smooth and accurate output coupled with great attention to detail makes this system excellent value for money. |

Pros: particularly clear, good frequency response
Cons: too much control over the bass, more than I can be bothered understanding.
Speakers are terrific, they look good and sound better, particularly the central speakers, they make the whole movie experience better, let's face it most of the sound is supposed to emminate from the picture! Having said that the satellite units are good also, particularly obvious with DTS sound. |

I am glad I had a friend who found the Gale speakers website. Now I have top speakers at an affordable price. The light wood finish look goes with our decor and the whole family is happy. I wouldn't bother writing a review unless I felt the deal was outstanding. |

Pros: Nice finish, good sound, well thought out for simple & more complex sound set ups
Cons: doesnt come with cables, most dont, but for the novice I didnt know this so had to wait an extra few days to get it set up
easy to set up, floor standing is great. but super sharp pin legs. overall sound is great.. really aimed more towards home theatre.. however have run the decks through them as well.. and easily handled.. if you're running tv/amp/computer/ipod dock AND turntables.. in one apt or house.. then you'll get everything you need out of these |
