Part of NetComm’s popular NB5 series, the NB5Plus4 is the next step up from the standard NB5 and a very popular choice for people who need to network multiple wired computers and other devices to access Internet services. It represents the next generation in ADSL technology being an ADSL2/2+ compatible model which is a new faster standard of ADSL broadband connectivity that is emerging in Australia. With the NB5Plus4 your broadband is future-proofed as it will operate with existing ADSL services and as your Internet Service Provider (ISP) upgrades to ADSL2 or 2+ you can instantly take advantage of the faster speeds without having to update your hardware.

What is ADSL2/2+
ADSL2 is a new standard of ADSL broadband which improves both the download speed and range of broadband Internet services. ADSL2 can download up to 12Mbps and has an additional range of about 200m down the phone line. ADSL2+ takes the ADSL2 standard and doubles the frequency from 1.1Mhz to 2.2Mhz – this gives it a download speed of up to 24Mbps. Your ISP needs to offer an ADSL2 or 2+ services for these speeds to be available – the NB5 will operate as a standard ADSL modem when these services are not available.

Versatile and easy to connect
The NB5Plus4 is an ADSL modem with a built-in router (which acts as a traffic controller) when networking multiple computers or other peripheral devices. It comes with a USB port and 4-port Ethernet switch which can be used simultaneously for flexible connection options. It can easily connect a single computer to Internet services through the USB port, can use the 4-port switch to connect multiple devices with standard Ethernet cabling and can even use both the USB and Ethernet ports simultaneously.
 
Advanced Security
Security is a major concern when using the Internet and the NB5Plus4 ensures that you are well protected. It features advanced firewall technology called Stateful Packet Inspection which checks every packet of data that comes in ensuring your defences are rock-solid against hackers, unauthorised entries, probes and Denial of service attacks.

• Automatic Port Forwarding Rules: port forwarding allows for little “doorways” to be opened through the firewall that are not visible to other people outside of your network (e.g. other users on the Internet). The NB5Plus4 can be configured with a vast range of network port rules for applications such as online gaming, peer-to-peer file sharing and Instant messaging services. It comes with a number of pre-configured rules for popular online games, simply click on the games and unit is automatically configured for you.

• Universal Plug and Play: the NB5Plus4 supports Universal Plug and Play which means it can easily connect and network with a multitude of other devices simply by plugging it in.

• Quality of Service: also known as (QoS) is a feature that gives you control over which types of data are given priority by the router. For example you could program the router to give voice packets the highest priority which makes the NB5Plus4 ideal to use with Voice over IP (VoIP).
