Pros: Lightweight, Cheap, Great-looking, Bigger Monitor, XP pre-installed
Cons: Keyboard a little small, less battery than other EeePCs
I've been checking out the EeePCs for a little over half a year now - the size and weight of them was just astounding when they were first released.

On inspection, however, they always fell a little short of what I was looking for: the originals only had the linux version (which is fine for most, but I like many others have applications that don't run in linux), the HDDs weren't nearly big enough for real work, and the keyboards were just that little bit too small to be comfortable.

It seems that in the short time since those first EeePCs were released in Australia ASUS has really been taking feedback seriously - with the release of the 901 and then the 1000 series EeePCs upgrading the range and fixing all previous user's problems.

When I found the 1000H in my local JB Hifi store, I was sold straight away. The look had been updated - and was now even sleeker and professional looking then before. There was Windows XP Home installed, a bigger clearer monitor, bigger keyboard, more hdd space, a better processor, more RAM, and even some cool quick-use buttons.

Sure - it isn't comparable in power to some of the other more standard laptop builds currently on offer, but at the same time it's half the price of those standard laptop builds, so you wouldn't expect a quality system to have those specifications at this price. For the amount you pay you get exactly what you'd expect, as well as the confidence you'd get from having an ASUS laptop.

I use mine for internet, general wordprocessing and even a bit of work - and it's absolutely perfect. It weighs so little that I just take it with me everywhere, and with the new ATOM 1.6Ghz processor and the upgraded 1Gb DDR2 RAM it's quick enough to handle everything I need to at once.

The new n grade wireless is compatible with the newer standard of wifi routers to make wireless networking even faster and more stable, and the addition of bluetooth was a nice surprise that has become increasingly handy to have.

The only concerns I had were the battery life and the keyboard - both of which I've gotten used to. I still get about 3 and a half hours of use out of it with everything on maximum, but found turning off bluetooth when I'm not using it and putting it into battery save mode have really helped.

Overall, I'm as impressed with the unit as I'd hoped I'd be when I first saw it. It's certainly a must have for anyone not needing all the bells and whistles of a $1500 machine.

Pros: Small but not too small
Cons: thicker than I expected
Just bought the last eeepc 1000h in store yesterday (Acer Aspire One was unavailable as a comparison despite being "available" which was annoying). First impressions, quick and useable for a cheap and small device. Loading software is a problem as no DVD/CD drive but new that when I bought it. Wireless is quick and keyboard very usuable (except the a-key is not working well so will return). For a traveling basic web surfing and email laptop which is why i bought it I will be great. Also comes with a neoprene bag for protection which is handy.
